A new storm is brewing…and it started with a vision to create a hunting experience unlike any other. Our mission is to provide our guests with a total hunting experience throughout the hunting season. From September to May, the thunder never stops. A stay at Prairie Thunder will leave you with lasting images from the sights and sounds of waterfowl with wings locked high overhead as they build by the hundreds before descending to finish in your face. It is here that they will be greeted with the thunder of gunfire, echoing across the Kansas prairie. Follow the yellow brick road to central Kansas and we will do our best to put you in the eye of the storm.

Early Season Package

Duck and White Front Goose Hunts over water

If you could sum up hunting waterfowl in Kansas with one word, it would be VARIETY!  With October’s first wave of puddle ducks such as wigeon, pintail, gadwall, blue and green winged teal and mallards, our guests will have a wide variety of birds to shoot. In addition we also have many divers such as redhead, bluebills, canvasbacks, and buffleheads. At Prairie Thunder, we offer ducks and goose hunts over water and we specialize in White-Front goose hunts. Hunters have the opportunity to harvest six ducks and five dark geese a person.

“Little Goose” Hunt Package

Field White Front, Lesser Canada, and Snow Goose Hunts

Kansas annually winters up to a million “Little Geese” by mid November on marshes of Central, Kansas. Huge flocks of White-Fronts, Lesser Canada and Snow geese flood into the wheat and corn fields surrounding the refuges. With the average field holding 10,000- 25,000 birds, it takes a huge decoy spread to decoy these little geese constantly.  We offer guided field hunts from layout blinds, over huge 5-700 decoy spreads, all on private ground.

Hunters can harvest 2 White Fronts, 3 Lesser Canada geese, and 20 snows per person. There are very few places besides Canada where hunters can harvest so many birds in a single day. We will do our best to have our clients on huge feeds every day.  With a little luck you will be in the heart of a real Kansas tornado!

Late Season Hunt Package

When the first December snow storm brings down fat northern mallards and honkers, we offer field and river hunts for both ducks and geese until the end of January. Typically you will have the opportunity to harvest ducks and geese from the same set-up. Once our duck season closes at the end of January we also offer hunts for Canada geese until our season ends in February.
